Roy Holliday

Date of first appearance:
Fall, 1987

Total winnings:
$67,200 (includes $5,000 each as a ToC semifinalist and competing in the 10th Anniversary Tournament)

First 5-time winner of the 4th season.

Favorite anecdote associated with the show:
During the lunch break at the 4th season ToC, a fellow contestant told me "I'm really impressed that a physician became a five-time winner--all the doctors I know are idiot savants!" (I think she meant it as a complement.)

Did being on Jeopardy! have any effect on your life?
People would assume that I was an authority on any subject. I was always sorry to disappoint them. I'm grateful for the rise of the Internet as the way to answer trivia questions.

What did you do with your winnings?
The $57,200 was pre-tax winnings. I owed $35,000 in student loans. You do the math.

Is there anything else you would like the viewers to know about you?
Not long after the 10th Anniversary Tournament, my real Final Jeopardy! round started when I was diagnosed with cancer. With terrific support from physicians, friends and family (plus a whole lot of pills), I've been in remission for eight years. Win or lose, I really am just happy to be here!
