A bookseller from Sylva, North Carolina...

Phoebe Juel

Date of first appearance:
May 1993.

Total winnings:
$31,000 and a car (and some lovely parting gifts; we were eating candied yams for months and my dad still uses the electric razor)

Do you have a nickname associated with your appearance?
It isn't directly associated with my appearance but my co-workers sometimes call me Encyclo-Phoebia.

Favorite anecdotes:
I will say though that I met some really nice folks as a result of my experience. The mail came in for months including a few with addresses like "That Jeopardy! Girl" and more Juels than I thought lived in the U.S. In a couple of instances I had flowers sent to me that ended up going through my parents flower shop. They really enjoyed taking those calls. It was a fairly big deal here in Jackson County, so when I'd go out on flower deliveries I was routinely asked in to visit and that was always fun. One really nice little lady up East Fork gave me the best jar of homemade wild strawberry preserves I've ever had just because I was on the show. I was the first person she's ever met who'd been on TV and it was a big deal for her. I was also recognized last year while I was up in Iowa canvassing for the Dean campaign; since it had been so long since I was on, that was quite a surprise.

Did I do anything crazy with my winnings?
No, not really. I did buy a sword, that's not crazy is it?

Anything else I'd like viewers to know?
I can't think of anything off the top of my head, except possibly what a great fit I would be at the University of Notre Dame Law School if by chance the admissions folks are watching or reading. (I'm waiting anxiously for an acceptance letter, does it show?)
