A junior from Portland, Oregon...

Rose Schaefer

What inspired you to want to compete in the Teen Tournament?
Um, I saw it on TV, the advertisement. My mom said, "Why don't you try out?" and so I tried out online, and I got invited to the audition, it was really cool, and here I am.

What's your favorite subject in school?
My favorite school subject is probably AP U.S. History. I'm not really sure. I like a lot of things.

Do you think that will help you on today's show?
Um, I'm hoping it'll help me out, because if there's any history questions, I had a really awesome teacher this year, so...

What will you do with your winnings?
Um, if I--I would definitely buy a car, but I think my parents would probably make me put a lot of it to college. But, I want a car, maybe a belly-button piercing.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Ten years? Um, hopefully gainfully employed. I'm hoping to go into law, maybe, or I'll probably go somewhere totally crazy that I don't expect, but...

Tune in to see who makes the grade and who gets schooled!

...

How does it feel to be a finalist?
Um, my heart's racing a little bit, and still a little shaky, but it's... really amazing, and terrified a little.

Did you notice a change in intensity in this round?
Well, at first I thought the quarterfinals were a lot more intense, but then, like, as Double Jeopardy! came on, it just kept getting scarier and scarier, because we were closer than I realized we' all be.

Are you going to do anything to prepare for the finals?
I don't really know. Probably drink a Diet Coke, try to calm down, not think too hard about it.

What's been the best part of this experience?
Oh, gosh. Probably the White House tour we did yesterday, which was just so amazing, because we had the curator guiding us, and we just had all this stuff that I never imagined learning. Maybe it'll help in finals.

Did the "win or go home" format affect your strategy?
Um, well, it terrified me a little, but then I decided, y'know, I can just bet it all, it doesn't matter, I'm not trying for second, so why not? And then, I bet it all, and I'm like, "Wait, what if they won't bet it all and I get it wrong?"--so I knocked it down a dollar.
