A broadcast journalist from CNN's American Morning...

Soledad O'Brien

Since July 2003, Soledad O'Brien has been the anchor of American Morning, CNN's flagship morning program. For CNN, she has traveled to Thailand to cover the tsunami, anchored the live coverage of the burial of Yasser Arafat, and was the only broadcast journalist permitted to travel with First Lady Laura Bush on her trip to Moscow.

Ms. O'Brien was part of the coverage team that earned CNN a George Foster Peabody award for its Katrina coverage. Prior to joining CNN, she was at NBC News where she anchored Weekend Today, as well as contributing to the Today Show and weekend editions of NBC Nightly News. In 2001, she was named one of People Magazine's "50 Most Beautiful People." Ms. O'Brien is a graduate of Harvard University, with a degree in English and American literature. For her charities, she has selected Christ Church on Quaker Hill, and Hearts of Gold, which is dedicated to enhancing the lives of New York City's homeless mothers and children.

Why do you think you will win?
I'm feeling very confident. I've done a lot of practice online. Watched a lot of the shows. Um, so I just feel like I'm well prepared. And I've been praying a lot about it. [Laughs] That might be the key thing.
