A junior from Cincinnati, Ohio...

Amy Fletcher

What happened when you found out you were going to be a contestant?
When I first signed up to try out, I asked my dad, you know, was it okay?--because we'd have to go up to Chicago, and he's like, "Yeah, sure, whatever"--he was watching a baseball game and didn't really care. And then we found out through e-mail that I was going to try out, and everyone was really excited. Then a couple of weeks ago, in October, my brother was home sick, so my mom and my brother actually found out before me. Everyone's like, "Amy, you have a package!" and I opened it, and we all started screaming and jumping up and down calling my dad and my family. And everyone was just really excited for me, which was really good.

What are you most excited about today?
Just meeting the kids from all over the country, which is really exciting, and just playing the game, and, you know, being on Jeopardy!, which is really cool.

How did you prepare for today?
My brother got the video game, and he played with me, and we played on the online game, and he asked me questions. And my quiz team coach at school at quiz team practice would make me answer things in the form of the question to get used to that. So, everyone was really helpful.

If you had a "dream Jeopardy! category," what would it be?
My dream Jeopardy! category would probably be something on ROMAN HISTORY or CULTURE, because I'm in my fifth year of Latin, so I know some stuff about that.

Where do you see yourself in ten years?
Ten years from now I hope to be a forensic chemist, working in the lab somewhere, probably for a government agency in Washington, D.C.

Do you have a particular role model?
My parents and my brother have been really supportive, and they've been really awesome about me coming out here, and my uncle is the one who initially told me to try out, and encouraged me to try out. He's been watching Jeopardy! for years, and he's a die-hard fan, he tapes every episode, and calls me and plays over the phone, so he's really great about that too.

What will do you with the money you win?
Most of it will probably go towards college, but some money--my friends and I are planning a senior trip to London, so some will probably go for that.
