A graduate student from Ithaca, New York...

Andrew Hutchings

Date of First Appearance:
May 1998

Total Winnings:
$27,500 + a car

Do I have a nickname?
For years before and afterwards, I have been known as “RIF”--Random Information Frosh.

Records, Stats:
1998 College Champion. At the time, I had the largest personal audience in Jeopardy! history, with 86 friends and family in attendance. (Alex Trebek verified the record at the time.)

Anecdotes:
My friends in the audience lost their voices from yelling so much. For a few peaceful days, I was the only person who could talk.

A major airline used an episode of mine for transatlantic in-flight entertainment after I appeared. Thus I could claim to be an “international sensation.”

Did I do anything crazy with my winnings?
I always said I would buy a pinball machine, and I did the year I appeared on the show... It later broke, but it was fun while it lasted.

Anything else?
Jeopardy! was an amazing experience, not just for me, but for my friends, family, and everyone at my school. In fact, as a result of my appearance on the show we were able to set up a scholarship fund for incoming freshman.
