Paul Shaffer

Paul Shaffer has been David Letterman's musical director and sidekick for over 23 years. Starting in Toronto as musical director of Godspell, Mr. Shaffer played on Broadway in The Magic Show in 1974 before moving to Saturday Night Live where he played keyboards, composed special material, and eventually became a featured performer.

Much in demand as a collaborator and composer, he worked with Gilda Radner on her Broadway show, and served as musical director for the Blues Brothers for their double platinum album, Briefcase Full of Blues. Mr. Shaffer composed the Late Show theme song, and with Paul Jabara co-wrote the number one '80s dance hit It's Raining Men. Versatile in many musical genres, he won his first Grammy Award for Best Country Instrumental in 2002, for the Earl Scruggs and Friends album. He was recently awarded a star on Canada's Walk of Fame. Mr. Shaffer has chosen to play for The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
