Harry Smith

Anchor of The Early Show since October 2002, Harry Smith joined CBS News in 1986 as a Dallas-based reporter and was named correspondent in 1987, reporting primarily for the CBS Evening News.

From 1987 to 1996 he served as co-anchor of CBS This Morning where he covered a wide range of domestic and international stories, including the Gulf War, the Republican and Democratic National Conventions, and the Oklahoma City bombing. Mr. Smith was the first morning reporter on the ground after Hurricane Katrina and has reported extensively from the Gulf Coast region. Mr. Smith has interviewed many newsmakers, heads of state, celebrities and sports figures. He also serves as substitute anchor for CBS News Sunday Morning and for three years he has hosted the annual Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular which is broadcast live on CBS each year from the Charles River Esplanade in Boston on July 4. Mr. Smith's winnings will go to The Harlem School of the Arts.
