An Emmy-nominated actor from Law & Order: Special Victims Unit...

Christopher Meloni

Emmy-nominated for his role as Detective Elliot Stabler on NBC's Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Christopher Meloni is recognized as one of the most versatile actors today. Taking on challenging and diverse roles on both sides of the law, Mr. Meloni is also well known for his portrayal of the duplicitous inmate Chris Keller on HBO's critically praised series Oz.

On the big screen he has been seen in the comedy Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle, opposite Julia Roberts in Runaway Bride, and in the hilarious independent film Wet Hot American Summer. He recently received much critical praise for his theatrical work at the prestigious Gate Theatre in Dublin for his starring role in Arthur Miller's A View from the Bridge. His winnings will be split between the Big Apple Circus Clown Care Program and the Montefiore Advocacy Center.

Why do you think you will win?
Why do I know I'm going to win the game? Because, um, I've been watching, uh, Jeopardy! since Art Fleming was giving the questions, and the cards went up through the box instead of the more, uh, more modern way to do it. And, uh, I got a lot of free time on my hands. I was unemployed for many years, so, uh, I have a lot of trivia stored in my head.

...

What does winning the game mean to you?
Well, two things. One is, this is the B answer: I'm a competitive guy, so it's nice to win. But really, y'know, it's, uh, these charities that I've picked, uh, really very close to my wife's heart and my own, and, uh... so it's just nice to be able to, y'know, throw 'em a couple bucks.

Could you tell us about your charity?
One of 'em is the Montefiore Child Advocacy Center, and it's run out of the, uh, Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx here in New York, and it helps, uh, counsel, advise, uh, uh, detect child abuse, be it physical or sexual, and then the other one is the Clown Care Unit that is run through the Big Apple Circus, and what that basically is, is they send out clowns to severely ill children at hospitals, and they really bring a little bit of laughter to, to these lives that are, y'know, in constant pain, so... it's awesome. They both do a great job.

How will your colleagues react to your win?
I think Mariska won't be shocked, 'cause I'm a tr--y'know, I just know, weird trivia stuff. But, but it'll be fun, y'know--there's, there's a nice healthy little, uh, competition between the Law & Orders, so, y'know...
